Swing Voters are Unified on One Topic: Affordable Healthcare

Swing Voters are Unified on One Topic: Affordable Healthcare

Florida, a well-established swing state (remember 2000, anyone?) was our destination for February’s Swing Voter Project focus group.

We met with respondents who voted for Obama in 2012, and then Trump in 2016. You could say that these are the people who know how to pick a winner. So we wanted to pick their brains.

For the full report, go here.

What theyre worried about:

The cost of health care topped their list.

What they like about President Trump:

He gets things done, he sticks to his guns, he doesn’t have a filter.

How about the Democratic candidates?

      • They like Bernie Sanders’ passion

“I feel like he’s got a real heart for the people of America”

      • They thought Amy Klobuchar came across as well-meaning and relatable, but thought the other candidates would “eat her alive”
      • They thought Pete Buttigieg lacked substance
      • They liked what Elizabeth Warren was saying, questioned her ability deliver on it
      • They didn’t think Joe Biden could compete with Trump
      • Their opinions of Mike Bloomberg were mixed, but they were not bothered by his ad blitz in their area

Any advice for the eventual nominee?

Stop attacking Trump. Stop making promises you can’t keep. Be confident. Project strength. And fix healthcare!

Do they like that Trump has rolled back many of Obamas environmental regulations?

No.

“It’s unacceptable. Some things are worth paying more for, and protecting our environment is one of them.”
