How Easily We Forget What is Inconvenient!

We can get information about anything, pretty much. Some of it we could use to make better decisions. But if it will threaten our happiness, we’ll just avoid it. We’re really good at selectively absorbing information that affirms what we believe, and forgetting the inconvenient or potentially painful things. And when we can’t avoid it, we’ll interpret it in a more reassuring way.

Even so, we still bombard one another with information, assuming that a deluge of facts will change beliefs. Which happens to be a great way to push people away. A better strategy is to increase receptivity to challenging information.
