Too Manly to Protect the Planet?

Gender bias and the environment, part 2

A local billboard promoting cardboard recycling depicted a white woman, an African-American man, and an Asian woman. It’s a great billboard, but where’s the white guy? “Marketing fail,” I judged.

According to an August 2016 WaPo article (“Your manliness could be hurting the planet”), “going green” is perceived as “more ladylike than manly.” Researchers noted that messaging tweaks could “draw more men to the green movement.” I  thought my town had missed an opportunity.

I should have judged not, and driven around more. Because then I would have seen this:
